A well traveled and well respected Germany-based, Jamaica born reggae musician, Jamaica "Papa" Curvin was born in Harewood, Jamaica in 1943.

He began playing reggae percussion as a child, and he formed the band Volcanoes in his late teens. The band won hearts and minds, but eventually the band folded, and in 1965 Curvin starts the group Bamboos of Jamaica, which played most of its gigs on cruise ships. Eventually settling in Germany, Curvin began to spread the reggae gospel to the unknowing continent as soon as he arrived. In the seventies he was a founder and member of Broadway and a member of the band Malcom's Locks. He also appeared as a backing musician for the ubiquitous Boney M. "Papa" Curvin spent the lion's share of the eighties and nineties developing and producing reggae in Germany, through his Reggae Center in Hamburg, as well as playing hundreds of shows.

He has also helped support the further development of the style in his home nation.
